Basic Classes

STORY BOOKS TO LIFE (class code BC1)- Stacia Sexton
For ages 5 to 7. This exciting class takes make-believe to the next level! Lessons focus on the child’s innate desire to pretend and cultivates them into true acting skills. Communication skills are also enhanced with the use of dramatic play, movement and music. Thursdays 4:30-5:30 pm, Oct 4 to Nov 8.                Tuition: $95

INTRO TO ACTING & THEATRE (code BC2) - Denni Don Hunting                                                                                                                                                  For ages 7 to 9 years.  This beginning class will focus on stage vocabulary, movement, scene work, character study, vocal work and improvisation.  Theatre games will be used to teach and reinforce lessons. There will be a short presentation at the end of the course.  Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm, October 3 to November 7.      Tuition: $95

LET’S CREATE (code BC3) - Kat Brown                                                                                                                                                                                                 For ages 8 to 10 years.  This new class will use the games, forms and tools currently taught in Interplay training!  A fun and dynamic class for students of all levels of experience. It's all about spontaneous, in the moment creating through sounds, movement, storytelling, stillness and contact.  There will be a short presentation at the end of the course.  Tuesdays 5:00-6:00pm, Oct 2 to Nov 6.          Tuition: $95

(class code BC3) - Stacia Sexton                                                                                                                                                                                                              For ages 9 to 13 years. The job of the actor is to analyze the script for action and then truthfully act out the scene.  We focus on acting technique and the tools an actor uses for the stage; character development, rote memorization of the script, and playing off/reacting to fellow actors in the scene.  At the end of the course, students will present short scenes highlighting these techniques. Some experience helpful.  Tuesdays 4:30 to 6:00, Oct 2 to Nov 6.           Tuition: $125

Broadway Junior Classes

NOTE: The following classes can be used to fulfill the prerequisites for The Little Mermaid, Jr. Students who want to enroll but not audition are welcome.

(code LB1) - Matt Archibald                                                                                                                                                                                                                        For ages 9 to 12. This course is designed for students who wish to develop a basic knowledge of singing.  We focus on the acting aspect of song preparation, including presentation and general vocal coaching.  This class is part of the Broadway Junior program and can be used to fulfill the singing prerequisite for The Little Mermaid Jr.  Tuesdays 4:30-6:00pm, Oct 2 to Nov 6.        Tuition: $125

(code LB3) - Melissa May                                                                                                                                                                                                                          For Ages 9 to 13. This class works on the staging and choreography for a “set piece” from musical theatre. The material is selected from a popular Broadway show with minimal costumes and scenic items. There will be a presentation on the final class day.  This class is part of the Broadway Junior program and can be used to fulfill the dance prerequisite for The Little Mermaid, Jr. Saturdays 11:00-12:30, Oct 6 to Nov 10.         Tuition: $125

(class code BW2) - Denni Don Hunting
For ages 9 to 13. Larger-than-life characters are par for the course in musical theatre!  Training for this class includes how to have a strong stage presence and how to be loud without injuring your voice.  Comic timing and improvisation are also covered.  This class is part of the Broadway Junior program and fulfills the acting prerequisite for The Little Mermaid, Jr.  Mondays 4:30 to 6:00, Oct 1-  Nov 5.                      Tuition: $125

TECHNICAL THEATRE CLASSES                        

For the student interested in the backstage area of theatre, the OTP Young Company offers classes in Lighting & Sound (TC1) or Costumes & Make-up (TC2).  These classes are offered in conjunction with the production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.  Each technical class will make up the running crew for the November production.  Interested students are asked to attend the audition Sept. 10th or 11th and register for their crew area.  Adult staff members will teach each crew with class meetings one day per week beginning the week of October 1st.             Tuition: $95

Mychelle Hopkins Meet the OTP's Education Director, Mychelle Hopkins. Mychelle holds her Master’s Degree from the prestigious Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar. She has received critical acclaim as a Director and Actress both regionally and internationally.
