Old Town Playhouse Young Company

Young Company Programs

MainStage and Studio Productions
The OTP Young Company produces two MainStage productions each year, one in November and another in June. Participants are generally 9 to 18 years of age with auditions and rehearsals starting approximately 3 months before performances.
The Young Company Junior Studio produces one non-musical play in the Schmuckal Studio Theatre at the Old Town Playhouse, usually in early December.

Touring Productions                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The OTP Young Company offers a touring program throughout the academic year.  The Repertory Company presents two plays each season; a Shakespeare play edited for touring and an elementary school play, based on classic literature.  Members of the Company are 13-18 years of age and must maintain a "B" average in school.  Once selected, students retain their membership until they graduate.  Tuition required.

Classes and Broadway Junior program
During the year, the Young Company offers a selection of classes in acting and music and movement exploration, as well as Broadway-style singing, acting and dance. Classes are generally 6-8 weeks in length, one day per week and are offered in the fall, winter, late spring and during the summer. Some classes offer education and training for the youngest actors, while others serve as pre-requisites to audition for full -scale productions. Each year (usually in November) the Young Company presents a Broadway-style production, with an adaption of a Broadway production, shortened and adapted specifically for an all student cast. See our Broadway Junior section for details about these classes and this program.

Summer Performing Arts Camp

Our program includes training in Acting, Dance, Singing, Improvisational Sports, Shakespeare and Shop (where students will learn the basics of Prop-Making, Set and Scene Design). Visiting artists augment training with one-day special workshops in such areas as Song Presentation, Play writing and Stage Combat. At the end of the session, students get to perform on the MainStage in a musical production. Camp begins in late June and run Mondays through Fridays, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

This program is held in August.  In 2015 the Young Company will add a third One-Week Intensive Camp to meet demand.
