Same Time Next Year
Opens
in the intimate Studio Theater:
An exciting evening of theater, song,
and memories
Same Time, Next Year opens at Old Town Playhouse on April 11th, running for three weeks, including a special Wednesday evening and Sunday matinee performances. Seating is limited, so put this fun event on your calendar and get your tickets early. “It’s an affair you’ll want to remember!”
One of the most popular romantic comedies of the last century, Same Time, Next Year ran four years on Broadway, was a successful motion picture, and remains one of the most widely produced plays in history. It was nominated for three Oscars, three Tony Awards, and four Drama Desk Awards.
Directed and Produced by Thomas Webb, and starring Jill Anton and Rodney Woodring, Same Time, Next Year follows a love affair between two people who meet by chance at a cottage resort and decide to rendezvous once a year at the same time and place. It’s a rollicking romp full of fun, laughs, and gentle moments of affection and drama. It's a tale about finding our soul-mates, about doing the wrong thing (sometimes), then embracing the opportunity to redeem ourselves.
Same Time, Next Year is also the story of the maturing of America from the 50s through the turbulent 60s and 70s. The growing role of women in our society is an important aspect of the play.
In a joint cultural venture, five local songwriters have composed original music for Same Time, Next Year. The composers will premier their songs live on opening night and will have a CD of the songs available after the run.
Concurrent with the show, an historical exhibit, entitled Same Time Next Year – Summers in Traverse City 1950-1975 will be on display at the Old Town Playhouse. The exhibit is a joint effort between OTP and the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society, with support from the National Cherry Festival.
A free romantic rendezvous at The Grey Hare Inn and Old Mission Tavern will be awarding to a lucky member of the audience. All those attending the play and filling out an entry form are eligible.
"Delicious ... wit, compassion, a sense of humor and a feel for nostalgia."
